Insurance Automatic Acceptance Limit Changes
From 1 October 2026, mysuper is increasing the Automatic Acceptance Limits (AALs) for optional insurance cover.
Why is this changing?
These changes make it easier for eligible members earning up to $266,000 to access higher levels of cover without medical underwriting, provided they apply for optional insurance through mysuper within 90 days of starting at ACC.
If you earn more than $266,000 or have been at ACC for more than 90 days, you can still apply for optional insurance, but medical underwriting will be required for cover over the new AALs. We’re happy to guide you through the process. Please email us at [email protected]
What are the new limits?
- Life cover: up to $800,000 (previously $450,000)
- Income Protection cover: up to $130,000 per year (previously $96,000 per year)

What are Automatic Acceptance Limits?
Automatic Acceptance Limits, also known as AALs, are the maximum amount of insurance cover you can receive without medical underwriting. Medical underwriting may involve completing a health questionnaire, providing additional medical information and, in some cases, attending an assessment with a doctor. By increasing these limits, more members can access higher levels of cover through their mysuper account. |
Why are the limits increasing?
The previous limits had been in place for more than 15 years and had not kept pace with wage growth. For context, a salary of $150,000 in 2010 is equivalent to approximately $272,000 in 2026. By increasing the limits, mysuper is helping eligible members access higher levels of financial protection that better reflect today's salaries and living costs. |
What do the changes mean for the 90-day application window?
The changes may affect members who have optional Life Cover and/or Income Protection Cover through mysuper, particularly those earning more than $150,000 a year. If you're affected, we'll contact you directly starting in August 2026 with information about what the changes mean for your cover and premiums. |
Does this mean I’ll receive $800,000 of Life Cover and $130,000 of Income Protection Cover?
Not necessarily. These are the maximum amounts available without medical underwriting. Your actual cover will depend on your salary, working hours, the cover you’ve selected, and any terms previously applied by the insurer. |
Will my premiums increase?
If your level of cover increases, your premiums are also likely to increase. Your premium is based on four factors: your level of cover, your age, your gender and the number of hours you work each week. However, mysuper’s insurance premium rates themselves have been secured until 30 September 2029, meaning there is no increase to the underlying premium rates during that period. |
What happens if I have been previously medically underwritten?
If you currently earn more than $150,000 a year and have already completed medical underwriting, or the insurer has placed a cap on your cover, your cover will not automatically change. Submitting a Personal Statement means the member has entered the medical underwriting process, even if the underwriting process is not ultimately completed. |
I thought premium rates were staying the same until 2029. Why could my premiums still change?
While the premium rates remain unchanged, the amount you pay for insurance can still change if:
These factors may result in higher or lower premiums over time. |
Do I need to provide additional medical information?
In most cases, eligible members who receive additional cover as a result of the increased Automatic Acceptance Limits will not need to provide additional medical information and the increase in cover levels will automatically increase on 1 October 2026. If you do need to provide any additional medical information we’ll be in contact with you. |
How can I see what my cover and premiums might look like after 1 October 2026?
You can use the mysuper Insurance Calculator to see the cover and premiums that may apply from 1 October 2026 based on your circumstances. |
Can I apply for cover above the new limits?
Yes. If you earn more than $266,000 you can apply for cover above the AALs, but medical underwriting will be required. Our insurance team can help you through the process - [email protected] |
Can I opt out of an increase to my insurance cover?
No, but if you’d like to review or cancel your optional insurance cover, please contact us before 1 October 2026 - [email protected] |
Can I cancel my insurance cover?
Yes. You can cancel your optional insurance cover at any time by giving us 30 working days’ written notice. If you’d like to cancel your cover before the changes take effect on 1 October 2026, please contact us as soon as possible at [email protected] We’ll send you the required form and help you through the process. The 30-working-day notice period begins when we receive your completed form. |
What should I consider before cancelling my insurance?
If you cancel your cover and decide to apply again later, you may need to complete medical underwriting. This means the insurer could apply special terms, limit or exclude certain conditions, charge a different premium, or decline your application. |
What if my working hours have changed?
To remain eligible for cover, members generally need to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. If your working hours have changed, please let us know by emailing [email protected] |
How can I check my current cover?
You can view your current Life cover, Income Protection cover and insurance premiums at any time through your mysuper account dashboard. |

Do I need to do anything?
If you’re eligible for an increase and the information we hold about you is correct, you won’t need to do anything. Your cover will increase automatically from 1 October 2026, and we’ll contact you directly with details. |
Why doesn't everyone receive the same level of insurance cover?
Our insurance cover is based on your individual circumstances, including your salary and the cover you've chosen through mysuper. Because members have different salaries and insurance arrangements, the amount of cover they receive and the premiums they pay can vary. The upcoming increase to AALs may also affect members differently depending on their current level of cover and salary. If you're affected by the changes taking effect on 1 October 2026, we'll contact you directly starting in August 2026 with information about what the changes mean for your cover and premiums. |
Why have some members received this information and not others?
Not all mysuper members hold optional insurance cover, and not all insured members will be affected by the upcoming changes in the same way. If you've received this information by email, it's because the changes may affect your insurance cover and premiums, and we want to give you plenty of time to understand what they mean for you so you can consider your options. |
