Closure of the easyselect investment option
On 30 June 2026 the mysuper automatic investment selection tool, easyselect, will no longer be available to mysuper members. This change will remove the lifecycle-based feature that automatically changes member investment funds at two age points (48 and 60).
Why is mysuper making this change?
easyselect was originally designed to make choosing an investment fund simpler by automatically adjusting a member’s investment risk profile as they got older.
At the time, this reflected a more traditional working life, where many people stayed in the same career for longer and retired around the age they became eligible for NZ Super. This meant an age-based investment approach worked well for many members.
Over time, however, this has changed. Many people now have multiple careers, retire earlier or later, and take a more flexible approach to work and retirement. Therefore, reviewing and adjusting your investment strategy may need to be done at a number of different points in your lifecycle.
What does the closure mean for members?
From 1 July, members choosing an investment strategy for the first time or adjusting what they have in place will only be able to self-select from the mysuper funds offered.
Members will need to determine what fund(s) fit with their goals, timeframe and comfort with risk.
By 30 November 2026 all remaining easyselect members will be transitioned to a self-select investment strategy.
How does this impact members using easyselect?
If a member has chosen easyselect as their investment strategy, their money will remain invested in the same mysuper fund. The change is that their investment will no longer automatically switch funds at ages 48 or 60. Instead, they will choose if, and when, they would like to move to a different fund.

If I have selected easyselect, do I have to do anything?
No, mysuper will manage the adjustment for you. You will continue to be invested in the same fund you are in now. The change is that your investment will no longer automatically switch funds at ages 48 or 60. Instead, you will be able to choose if, and when, you would like to move to a different fund. |
If I am about to turn 48 or 60, will I still automatically transition to a new fund?
No. Members who are scheduled to change funds automatically under easyselect during 2026 will be contacted individually and asked whether they wish to change funds. If you choose not to make a change, you will remain in your current fund. |

Should I review my investment strategy regularly?
Reviewing your investment fund helps ensure it still matches your personal circumstances, goals, and comfort with risk. Over time, things like your age, financial goals, income, or planned retirement date may change, and an investment choice that once suited you may no longer be the best fit. Regularly reviewing your fund gives you the opportunity to check that your investment strategy, level of risk, and expected returns are still right for where you are now and where you’re heading. Making changes when needed can help you stay on track to meet your long-term financial goals. |
Where can I see what my current investment strategy is?
You can review your investment strategy at any time by logging into your mysuper member account at mysuper.co.nz Once logged in, go to the Investments section to view your current investment strategy and make changes if you wish. |
When is it a good time to change between investment funds?
A good time to consider changing an investment fund is when your personal circumstances or goals change, rather than reacting to short-term market movements. It’s generally best not to change funds purely in response to market highs or lows. Taking a long-term approach and reviewing your investment strategy when your circumstances change can help you stay aligned with your financial goals. |
